How does one boost with bikes and what are the benefits and drawbacks of doing so?

You just declare you are boosting and move the bikes at least 18". Also no going through terrain. The benefit is that your armor save becomes an invulnerable save until your next turn.

It's useful to help protect your guys in the face of some APing shots you expect them to get hit with in your opponents turn. It also lets you cover a lot of ground.

Don't forget that you have to finish your move 18" away from your starting position. So driving around a building my take 20" of movement but only leave you 13" away from your starting position, so no invulnerable save.
