Nothing against Ryan as we decided to play how he has always played, but its under my opinion that the Eldar Jetbike rule does not allow you to break off from combat voluntarily and that its only usable during the Jetbike owner's assault phase.

We played it as Ryan able to move 6" in either player phase and able to leave close combat.
No model had the Hit and Run universal rule.

Understand this is not an attack on Ryan by any means. I was crystal in regards to his past play ruling and we went about the game with this understanding. I was just glad to get a game in. It was rather harsh as he proceeded to whoop me by leaving combat in my phase then shooting and assaulting in his own phase. You had to catch them and kill them in one assault phase or off they went zipping across to safety. You would think we'd see more Jetbike dominant armies instead of Falcon dominant armies from the Eldar camp. Brutal stuff there.

btw - the book reads "Eldar Jetbikes may always move up to 6" in the assault phase, even if they do not assault" and there is no up to date Eldar FAQs or errata directed to this topic.

Thoughts?

You definitely cannot leave combat. Just post this anywhere on the web (40konline or something) and you will get the same response.

It's pretty clear cut (imo) that you can only use the Eldar Jetbike rule in your own assault phase.

...and where are my batreps?

I think the

implies it is during their turn. Also I have only seen it played that way.

I think it is the same as tau suits, they only get to make their 6inch added move on their own turn

yeah the shining spears have hit n run, but we were besides ourself wondering wether i could do a normal 6" move out of combat. If its on my assault phase, then I would just get shot up haha.

I had a friend back at home who was very experienced and he used to move his tau suits out of combat like that, so i guess i assumed it was possible.

Sorry to Marc and Zach because we had decided that day it was possible.

So, Matt, I can move out of assault after I assault?

I am asking some trusted people now, will find out a result in a few.

Nope

Hit and run allows you to, but its specifically states that you can make such a move from assault.

you are correct. I played them wrong! This brings about a small change in my army list, actually. Some counter-charge. Anyways.. spears can pull out (haha) because they have the hit n run, but any ole jetbike cannot. The autarch with the spears I played can also because their abilities transfer to him.

I am sorry for the confusion marc, and i am glad you brought this up for clarification! it indefinitely would have changed the battle a little bit, wow am i sorry i got those wrong!

Thanks for everyone helpin me out with this one, its been bugging me a little because it was so shady.

No worries Ryan. I'll just expunge that blemish off the books and will settle it over a rematch.

yah i would have to say that they may not leave the close combat for the reasons of they are not vehicles and they do not have the hit and run ability.

The way you worded this statement, "...used to move his suits (plural) like this" leads me to believe that he used his "experience" to scam you. After checking with a buddy to make sure, Tau have a piece of wargear that allows Hit and Run. However, it may only be one per army and it may only be given to an HQ suit or a SINGLE suit with no drones.
