Do you have to pick a chapter or can you just have space marines. What are the advantages of picking a chapter?

| Certain chapters have their own codex books (Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves + Black Templars). So they have their own rules.
Other chapters have suggested traits to take in the codex. So they are semi-picked for you.
However, you can use whatever codex you want to represent your chapter. So mostly the chapter choice is an aesthetic, and fluff based one.

| So i dont have to pick a chapter unless i want to? i'm waiting on a codex to get in the mail and the damn thing hasnt come yet. So i'm biting my nails trying to get up to sci fi sat.
