Skaven Thoughts

Subject: Skaven Thoughts Mon Jul 14, 2008 6:26 pm

I was thinkin of takin 2 teams of clan rats, put a ratling gun with both, then have a unit of plague monks support one team, and then have a 5 man rat ogre squad make the attack with the other team. Just tryin to get a feel for what people think about that.

I have never been a fan of rat ogres but you know what they say about opinions Smile

. I always thought the warplightning canon was a great buy though.

Ok my thoughts(which you know some of) is this the plauge monks are a waste of points and so are the rat orgres.....a ld 4 stupid unit that has no saves(I know you have to lose the rat pack master people but it isnt that hard to lose them). You have better units you can send with them than that

Skaven can be a solid army, but they are not easy to play. the 7th edition rules knocked them down from being one of the best to just above average, but still not a bad army. between the Warlock engineers, Warp lightning cannon and the ratling guns, they have great ranged abilities. Add in the rank bonus to leadership and being able to lead from the rear, they can be very competative in hand to hand as well. They won't win many fights, but they stand a good chance of holding units up for a side charge. Assassins can be effective too, but again not easy to play. I go back to the same thing I have always said, pick a list that is fun to play and enjoy the game. If your ego gets bruised too much, I will drag out my 6th edition hafling rules and spot you 500 points Smile

Agreed. Put in what you like Pittman. You're going to be painting dozens of these guys, so make sure the models you get are to your liking.

If you like the look of Rat Ogres than go for it. I've seen players use them as "rank fillers" just because they like the models. Give that a thought.

Also, I think that jezzails are one of the best units in the game. I would never leave skavenblight without them.

Thats kind of what I was going for. I like the look of the models and I think with them supporting they will make a nasty side charge on a unit. Same principle with the plague monks.

I seriously doubt that no matter how hard the other unit is, that they could with stand 20 str 5 hits and then all the hits from the front ranks attack and really wanna stay put. Or 20 str 3 hits with a chance of rerolling all first round of combat misses. Nasty Nasty me think think. I also for got to mention that I will have a master moulder to back them up so they can reroll any failed psychology tests plus I am taking skaven brew with him so I can feed it to those big ogres.
